Southwell scaled

Snow may have hit the UK this week but that's not going to slow down the all-weather racing that is coming our way from Southwell, with nine races on offer on Thursday.

I've studied the card for the day's action and picked out three runners that I think are of value. Read on for my Southwell tips for Thursday, November 21.

Southwell Tips - Thursday, November 21

  • 17:00 - Local Music @ 11/2
  • 18:30 - Champagne Prince @ 5/2
  • 19:00 - Paddy's Day @ 4/1

17:00 - Local Music @ 11/2

Matt Crawley's four-year-old bay filly LOCAL MUSIC will be making her Southwell bow on Thursday, and she heads here in decent form. Her last three outings have all been all-weather affairs at Chelmsford, in which she's posted a victory as well as second and third place finishes.

The latest two runs were at 7f, though, while this one will be over a mile. This won't be concerning considering she finished second at this distance in Chelmsford back in July, and she also won on that track in April. So she is accustomed to this distance, which should stand her in good stead for this meeting.

Local Music is up 4lbs now and I still think she is undervalued by some. She has my backing here.

This is an Extra Place Race, with Betfred offering 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets

17:00 Southwell - Winner Local Music

18:30 - Champagne Prince @ 5/2

I think this is the selection I am most confident about on Thursday. CHAMPAGNE PRINCE for Jane Chapple-Hyam returns to Southwell a month after a victory over the same distance (1m4f) in which he won by two lengths.

The familiarity and recent success on this course should serve him well, and I believe he can go back-to-back on Thursday. This latest triumph kept his perfect record for all-weather races in three outings. His previous two triumphs came at Newcastle and Chelmsford in December 2023. Those two wins were fairly comfortable too, so I think this three-year-old is hard to ignore on this occasion.

Mark has risen by 5lbs but I'm not expecting that to impact him too much. I fancy his chances to extend his AW winning run.

18:30 Southwell - Winner Champagne Prince

Odds correct at time of publishing.

19:00 - Paddy's Day @ 4/1

Nigel Tinkler-trained PADDY'S DAY will be hoping for better fortune when he returns to Southwell on Thursday. His last two AW runs have been at this track and he has been narrowly beaten on both occasions by Sugar Hill Babe, posting third and second-place finishes.

He has tried leading and pressing the pace in those two recent outings but has been unable to yield the desired result. The four-year-old still heads into this entry in decent form and one that I think will have him in contention once again.

With a similar distance, Tinkler will be hoping that third time's the charm to secure Paddy's Day his first-ever AW victory at Southwell. His previous two came from strong performances at Lingfield and Newcastle, which were both in 2023. So it does feel like he overdue some success.

Seeing as there is no Sugar Hill Babe to thwart him this time around, I fancy his chances to take the victory on Thursday.

19:00 Southwell - Winner Paddy's Day

Odds correct at time of publishing.
