There’s plenty of action set to take place in Britain and Ireland on Thursday. There’s a pair of Flat cards on the all-weather at Southwell and Chelmsford, and jumps fixtures at Catterick and Clonmel.

Southwell hosts a nine-race card starting at 11:20, concluding at 15:50, and we have a trio of selections for the Tapeta action, including a well-handicapped sort who is unexposed on the all-weather.

11:50 Southwell - Bitcoin Profit @ 6/1

A low draw and racing close to the pace are usually two big positives on the Tapeta course at Southwell, particularly over the six-furlong distance and one that looks likely to go forward from his low draw (4) is BITCOIN PROFIT who has raced prominently in the past.

The gelding came on from a sixth on his yard debut at Wolverhampton when stepped up to this trip at the same venue on his handicap debut last month, finishing third of 11 and showing that his future could be over further than the minimum.

He was a beaten favourite at Chelmsford next time when dropped back to five-furlongs in a race in which nothing went right for him. Having missed the break, he was never involved at a track that favours front-runners and the shorter trip was against him that day too.

Bitcoin Profit had shown no previous signs of problems from the stalls, so that effort is worth forgiving and without any pace in this race on paper, he may be able to dictate his own fractions from the front.

Rossa Ryan is a positive jockey booking and he may be able to help this three-year-old shed his maiden tag at the seventh attempt in a weak looking contest.

12:55 Southwell - Queen Of Atlantis @ 5/1

QUEEN OF ATLANTIS had shown some promise for James Ferguson last year and she may have been a shrewd purchase for her new trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam.

The daughter of Advertise shaped with promise at Lingfield on her first start for Chapple-Hyam. She only finished eighth but had excuses having met trouble in running on several occasions and it was a big step forward from that effort when stepped up in trip on Tapeta at Wolverhampton 20 days ago.

She stayed on well to win by roughly two lengths on that occasion and there’s sure to be more to come from her this season, particularly over this sort of trip on an artificial surface (half-sister to several all-weather winners).

14:05 Southwell - Hortzadar @ 6/1

HORTZADAR is an eight-time winner on turf who made a winning start to his all-weather career on Tapeta at Newcastle in November.

He was only narrowly denied by a stablemate at the same venue the following month but he still appeals as very well treated from a mark of 79 having won off a mark of 91 on turf in April 2022.

It’s also possible that this less demanding mile will help and with a handy draw in stall two, he looks worth chancing in what appears to be the weaker of the two divisions of the handicap.
