Southwell Tips: Destinado destined for more success

There is a six-race card to look forward to on the all-weather from Southwell on Thursday, starting at 14:25 and going through all the way until 17:20.
An apprentice handicap gets the action underway, while the 15:35, a three-year-old maiden featuring some well-bred sorts, is when punters will get to see the classier horses on the card. Read on for my Southwell tips.

14:25 - Destinado @ 9/2
The lightly-raced William Walton has to be feared if fully wound up on his return after 147 days off, but Destinado is race-fit and could be a tough nut to crack.
The James Owen-trained seven-year-old can be slowly away but he sees this 1m4f trip out extremely well and gets on fine with apprentice rider Mason Paetel, who is well worth the 7Ib he takes off.
Paetel won when aboard Destinado for the first time two runs ago, defying a mark of 66 on the turf at Doncaster, and they were unlucky not to follow up when a fast-finishing second behind the in-form Obsidian Knight over this trip at Lingfield last time out.
However, he is up only another 2Ib for that effort and he has won over this course and distance.

15:35 - Vamp @ 2/1
Still a maiden after three starts, Vamp is becoming a bit expensive to follow, but this looks her easiest opportunity to date.
Richard Hughes’s charge chased home a 90-rated filly on her second start, while six furlongs may have stretched her when she finished runner-up to the promising Nazuki at this venue 23 days ago.
Dropped back to a sharp five, Vamp should take all the beating especially as her chief market rivals are having their first runs back and have to prove that they have trained one from two to three.

16:10 - Distinction @ 10/1
There is the potential for there to be plenty of pace in this contest, especially with Down To The Kid and Love Your Work two that like to force it, and that could play into the hands of Distinction.
The quicker they go the better for John Mackie’s hold-up performer, who was an excellent second over 1m2f on the turf at Doncaster last month.
That effort was over two furlongs further but he has won over this trip off higher marks in the past and he has plenty of placed form over this course and distance.
The seven-year-old must make plenty of each-way appeal given the potential set up and he is pretty consistent for a horse in this lowly grade.
