Saturday Racing Tips: LongShotValue’s 14/1 & 25/1 Derby Day picks

We're delighted to have long-priced Twitter value-hunter Aidan O'Hara (@LongShotValue) on the Betfred books for the Betfred Derby Festival, and on Betfred Oaks Derby Day he's given us two of his best horse racing tips he likes the look of.

Read below for Aidan's Saturday racing tips, where he's picked out a 25/1 and 14/1 shot.

15:10 Epsom 1pt ew 5 places Doctor Vuby @ 25/1

These races require a horse that is well handicapped like any handicap but also there is a huge amount of luck involved in getting drawn on the correct side for the speed, and also track.

Additionally, the gaps have to come at the right time and you have to have a horse fast enough for these extremely quick five furlongs. All this leads to backing horses at a short price a tricky affair.

For this race, I’m going with Doctor Vuby. He’s had a break after a run that has worked out well trying to give 7lbs to Doctor Ziggy, who has gone up 20lbs since and re-opposes here. He’s also had a wind op and just looks like the type of improver that could be suited to this. Let's hope he is on the right side and gets the gaps if needed near the finish.

15:45 Epsom 1pt Win Alligator Alley @ 14/1

This famous Epsom dash has, down the years, been an exciting watch. You need a very fast horse to travel well enough to compete here. I don’t think weight comes into it as much as a lot of handicaps, though a few pounds in hand is never a negative.

I’ve come down on the side of Alligator Alley. That win in the racing league final last August is really the type of run for this race. He travelled really well and won with a fair bit in hand on the big day. He has come down to 3lbs below that winning mark and has shown a few signs of a revival lately. He’ll need to break well and be travelling near the front - if that happens, he should be hard to pass.
