Seven flat races for our entertainment on Friday, Sept 15th, at Sandown Park. Action takes place between 2.05pm and 5.35pm.

Competitive racing at a genuine Grade 1 track, with that famous punishing, finishing hill to climb.

Sandown tips, Friday

  • 14.05 South Shore @ 6/4
  • 14.40 Devil’s Angel @ 4/1
  • 3.15 Frankelian @ 7/4

14.05 South Shore @ 6/4

Some nice types at the head of the market for this maiden. One such is South Shore, a Simon and Ed Crisford/Kieran Shoemark conveyance, who’s had just the one outing to date.

He was favourite, at Ripon, but got caught in the shadows of the post. The Yorkshire venue is a tough introductory test, with its famous undulations, and the experience gained will doubtless be extremely valuable.

He’s by the brilliant sprinter Blue Point, and can improve upon that initial outing to score.

14.40 Devil’s Angel @ 4/1

Experienced sprint handicappers clash in a modest but ultra-competitive little affair. Jedd O’Keefe trains on Middleham Moor, and sends his course-and-distance scorer Devil’s Angel down south in search of further glory.

Here’s another by a top sprint sire – Dark Angel. The selection is 7 years young nowadays but showed evidence of his well-being with a running-on 2nd in the grade at Redcar last time. His shrewd handler must feel there’s a bright chance of success to undertake such a raid, and again I’m very hopeful of a bold showing.

We’re paying 4 places e/w in this one, if that’s of interest.

15.15 Frankelian @ 7/4

The famous Lochsong colours of Jeff Smith are on view, and a daughter of the peerless Frankel no less by the name of Frankelian. One run to date at Goodwood 3 weeks ago, and the penny certainly began to drop late in the piece.

She was beaten only 3l, at this mile trip, so plenty of improvement could be forthcoming for red-hot trainer Ralph Beckett. The admirable Ben Curtis takes the ride. Always exciting seeing Frankel’s progeny taking to the racecourse – let’s hope he’s produced another belter.
