It’s off to the undulations of Ripon for a six-race evening card on Tuesday 8 August.

The North Yorkshire action is highlighted by a good Class 4 handicap at 19:40 on what promises to be a fantastic night at the Garden Racecourse.

Ripon Tips

  • 6.10 – Chagall @ 7/1
  • 7.10 – Lochaber @ 7/2
  • 8.10 – Malham Tarn Cove @ 6/1

6.10 – Chagall @ 7/1

The action gets underway with an apprentice handicap over a mile and it can go the way of Chagall.

The seven-year-old kept on well to score over one-mile-and-two-furlongs at Lingfield 21 days ago and Jack Jones’s charge looks capable of another big performance.

Chagall has a good record on testing ground, having won on heavy at Cork in the past and the forecast tough conditions should bring out the seven-year-old’s abundant stamina.

There are plenty of in-form rivals going to post, but few are proven on soft ground and Chagall could have the edge.

7.10 – Lochaber @ 7/2

Lochaber’s best Racing Post Rating was recorded when running in a novice race on soft ground at Thirsk and Karl Burke’s charge may well put up an improved showing back on testing conditions.

The two-year-old is still fairly lightly raced and unexposed having had only five career starts but he flashed home after a slow start at Musselburgh last time out.

That was certainly an eye-catching run in Scotland 14 days ago and the soft ground may enable Lochaber to hold a better position in the early stages of this evening’s contest.

8.10 – Malham Tarn Cove @ 6/1

Malham Tarn Cove is yet to taste victory in nine career starts, but the four-year-old put in a cracking run at Leicester last time out.

The gelding can break his duck in the five furlong handicap at 20:10.

The second place at Leicester came over six furlongs, but Steph Hollinshead’s charge has run well over the minimum trip in the past.

Today’s testing ground should play to Malham Tarn Cove’s strengths, as could his burgeoning partnership with Dougie Costello.
