Queen’s Vase 2025 Tips: Play Devil’s Advocate at 7/1

There is Group 2 staying action for three-year-olds at Royal Ascot on Wednesday with the Queen’s Vase run over a mile and six furlongs.
A field of 13 runners are set to go to post, with many of them unexposed at the trip and my Queen’s Vase tips focus on a horse who looks set to improve for the longer distance.
There is a field of 13 three-year-olds set to go to post in the Queen's Vase, but with many of those runners not certain to stay the mile-and-six-furlong trip, and Betfred offering four places, an each-way play on DEVIL'S ADVOCATE could pay dividends.

John & Thady Gosden’s charge bolted up when winning his maiden over one-mile-and-two-furlongs at Chelmsford last season and that effort came when the three-year-old was stepped up from a mile.
Devil's Advocate hit the finishing line seven-and-a-half lengths to the good at the Essex venue and looked a horse that would be well suited by middle and staying distances as a three-year-old.
The son of Too Darn Hot didn’t cut much ice on his return at Epsom in April, but the colt was too keen and fresh on his comeback run, and Gosden’s charge wouldn’t be the first horse who hasn’t handled the North Downs.
Devil's Advocate finished fourth in the Dante last time out, when again a little too keen at York, but that was a promising run, and while the Dante runners didn’t do much for the form of that contest in the Derby, the three-year-old’s run still represents the best level of performance of any of the Queen’s Vase runners.
Not only was it a good effort from Devil's Advocate in first-time cheekpieces, but the three-year-old also gave the impression that there would be lots more improvement to come when stepped up in trip.
Gosden’s runner came on for the fitting of the cheekpieces and was seen to much better effect, rallying late on to finish fourth in the Dante, and the three-year-old may be able to hang around for longer over the extended trip at Ascot.
Devil's Advocate's dam Precious Ramotswe won a Group 3 over one-mile-and-six-furlongs at York and she also stayed the 2m2f trip in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
The breeding and visual impression of Gosden’s runner suggests there should be much more to come over the Queen’s Vase trip, and Devil's Advocate looks a solid each-way play.
