Pontefract Tips: Show Biz Kid to shine at Pontefract

Pontefract is set to be bathed in sunshine for a seven-race card on Wednesday afternoon.

The action is highlighted by a decent Class 4 handicap at 16:05 where On The River looks set to flow to success for trainer Harriet Bethell. Read my Pontefract tips below.

15:32 - Show Biz Kid @ 9/2

Show Biz Kid stayed on well to chase down an in-form rival in a one-mile-and-two-furlong handicap at Yarmouth last time out and that looks a strong race of its type.

Kinetic, the fourth-place horse from that east coast contest has gone on to win a pair of handicaps, while Bobacious, who finished fifth in the Yarmouth race, has since run second at Nottingham.

Show Biz Kid has been bumped up two pounds for his victory earlier this month, but that was only the four-year-old’s sixth run on turf and first over the trip, which leaves the impression of more to come from Julia & Shelley Birkett’s charge.

Today’s conditions look ideal for Show Biz Kid and the gelding can play the starring role at 15:32.

16:05 - On The River @ 8/1

On The River ran a cracker when just failing to run down a well-positioned rival at Ripon last time out and the six-year-old remains a progressive and in-form horse.

Harriet Bethell’s charge goes to post off a mark of 85 in the Class 4 handicap at 16:05 and there looks to be some scope for victory off that rating.

On The River impressed when scoring at York and Haydock at the end of last season and the six-year-old has twice scored over course and distance.

Bethell’s charge should go close in the feature race.
