Panda Boy Grand National Odds 2024: Genuine win contender

One of the top horses in the Ante-Post market, Panda Boy needed a handful of late defections to make the field of 34. He has, however, made it to the start line and is set to attract plenty of support heading into the Grand National.

It takes plenty of gumption to swerve the Cheltenham Festival with a serious contender but that is exactly what trainer Martin Brassil did when the rain continued to fall and the ground failed to firm up. Clearly, he prefers seeing Panda Boy on firmer ground, his problem here is that the rain is continuing to fall in the north-west and shows no real sign of slowing up.

This has clearly been the target race for Panda Boy all season and that run in December at Leopardstown, where we saw him beaten by fellow Grand National contender Meetingofthewaters, was enough to indicate that he could well be there or thereabouts.

Last spring it was the Irish Grand National that saw Panda Boy put in a good performance, one that saw him in the mix before a mistake two out saw him lose all momentum and he ended up fifth. He had a real chance that day and with all the eggs having been put into the Aintree Grand National basket from his team, he’ll be one of the best prepped horses for this race.

Keep an eye on the weather, however, and the chances that the course shows any signs of drying out. If it continues to rain then that short price for Panda Boy might well be one to avoid. If the sun comes out and the wind whips up, you never know, he has as good a chance as any.
