The sun is starting to set on the flat season, but there is an eight-race card at Nottingham to look forward to on Wednesday afternoon.

El Megeeth showed plenty of promise on handicap debut at Newbury last time out and Henry Hardwicke believes the three-year-old can continue her progress at Nottingham.

Nottingham Betting Tips - Wednesday October 8

  • 13:58 Nottingham - El Megeeth @ 13/8
  • 15:28 Nottingham - Good Heavens @ 9/1

13:58 Nottingham - El Megeeth @ 13/8

El Megeeth produced useful form in novice races, so handicaps should prove just the ticket for this three-year-old.

Owen Burrow’s charge ran well to finish second behind Orions on handicap debut at Newbury 19 days ago and that effort suggested that there could be further improvement to come.

Orions has since gone on to finish placed in a premier handicap at Newmarket and El Megeeth’s run behind William Haggas’ horse rates as pretty decent form.

There is scope for improvement, too, with El Megeeth having only her fifth career and second handicap start.

The step up to the one-mile-and-six-furlong trip could also bring about further progress from Burrow’s filly.

15:28 Nottingham - Good Heavens @ 9/1

Good Heavens earned a peak flat rating of 100 when trained in Ireland by Joseph O’Brien and the six-year-old scored off a heavily reduced mark for John and Sean Quinn at Pontefract last time out.

The JP McManus-owned runner won off a rating of 77 at Ponte 20 days ago, and the style of that success, as well as the previous rating, suggests Good Heavens can follow up in the 15:28 at Nottingham.

The six-year-old stayed on well to win last time out and the long straight, flat track and good-to-soft ground rate as ideal conditions for Quinn’s hope.

17:00 Nottingham - World Of Darcy @ 14/1

World Of Darcy was punted into 3/1 at Hamilton 16 days ago, but failed to feature. However, that was the four-year-old’s first run at the Scottish venue and he could offer more in the six-furlong handicap at Nottingham.

John Ryan’s runner won over course and distance in identical conditions two years ago and that success came off a mark of 88.

World Of Darcy has plummeted down to a rating of 55, and while that has come as a result of some uninspiring runs, the market support at Hamilton suggests that connections are confident the four-year-old can still be a threat.

Ryan’s hope completed a hat-trick at Brighton almost exactly 12 months ago and a return to form is on the cards at Nottingham.
