Nottingham Tips: Daughter of Churchill can Battle to victory

It’s a busy day in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday with six meetings taking place. The action is evenly split between the Flat and jumps and here we focus on Nottingham’s eight-race card, which kicks off with an above average maiden at 14:10 with the card concluding with a Class 6 handicap at 17:45.
I've picked out a trio of Nottingham tips for your consideration.
14:10 - General Assembly @ 10/11
The standard set by General Assembly in Nottingham’s opener is above average for a five furlong three-year-old maiden at this venue and there are a few reasons to think he’ll be hard to beat this time.
The son of Starspangledbanner left his debut behind at Navan when finishing second on his first appearance for George Boughey at Southwell last month, and he proved that was no fluke when grabbing third at Kempton eight days later when beaten by roughly a length.
He’s been freshened up prior to his return to turf here and he gives the impression that the drop back to the minimum trip could see him improve, given that he can overrace in the early part of his races.
He may not need to improve to win this contest and he has the services of William Buick, who is in fine form having ridden a trio of winners at Newbury and Newmarket over the weekend.
It’s also worth noting his 23% strike-rate when riding for Boughey.
15:10 - Battle Queen @ 11/8
Battle Queen seems a little unlucky to still be a maiden and she may take some beating in another of the maidens on Nottingham’s card.
The Churchill filly made a promising start to her career when hitting the frame in a couple of all-weather maidens at the back end of last year and was only beaten a head on this year’s reappearance at Lingfield.
However, it’s her run behind Francophone when runner-up at Southwell three weeks ago that makes her of real interest. After winning at that track, Francophone went on to finish runner-up in last week’s Musidora, giving her all-weather form a major boost in the process.
The sectional times suggest the selection may have gone a bit too hard in the early stages in that race, so it’s probably worth marking up that effort and there’s every chance she’ll appreciate the switch to turf given her pedigree.
15:40 - Alvesta @ 12/1
It can pay to be on the front end at Nottingham and one that might be able to get an uncontested lead is Alvesta.
The daughter of Study Of Man has improved since switching to more prominent tactics, hitting the crossbar at Wolverhampton in January before another solid effort back at that venue later in the month.
She represents a yard in good form in recent weeks and an opening handicap mark of 68 looks workable. If she is allowed to dictate her own fractions, she may be hard to pass.
