We’ve got six races – running from 14:40 to 17:35 – from the picturesque Newton Abbot to enjoy on Monday.
Jonjo O’Neill Jr, Nico de Boinville and Paddy Brennan are among the top jocks in action on what promises to be an exciting afternoon.
15:50 – Investment Manager @ 6/5
We’re siding here with a 7-yr-old gelded son of Nathaniel no less, carrying the legendary Native River colours of Brocade Racing, and trained by Joe Tizzard. Investment Manager is in terrific nick, winning his last 2 starts here in the grade under regular pilot Brendan Powell.
He had a wind op in June, ran poorly a month after, then reeled off those two very convincing victories. In such a rich vein it’s very hard to desert him, even shouldering 12st.
Terrific chance to see those wonderful colours in action again, and fingers crossed that the upward curve is maintained.
17:35 – Bradford Lady @ 9/4
The lucky last is a bumper – a National Hunt flat race. Bradford Lady is trained by Warminster handler Milton Harris, and ridden by Bradley Harris – no relation though, as I understand it. Dogged battler Milton has been through the ups and downs of training life but has a 21% strike-rate presently, and this Sir Percy filly might be the one to enhance that ever so slightly.
It’s a very ordinary little race with just 4 due to face the starter, but little fish taste just as sweet, and all that jazz. There’s precious little form or experience on view, but I’m banking on the shrewd Harris to have found an ideal opportunity for his nicely-bred filly.
It will be her third career start, and she’s shown little so far. Time to reveal your talent, young lady!
