It’s off to Newmarket on Friday 11 August for a competitive evening card on the July Course.

There’s a total of seven races at HQ with a Class 4 0-80 handicap over a six-furlong trip at 20:20 the standout event.

Newmarket Tips

  • 7.10 – Palamon @ 5/1
  • 7.45 – Eponina @ 22/1
  • 8.20 – Equiano Springs @ 11/4

7.10 – Palamon @ 5/1

Palamon finished second over seven furlongs at this track on his debut and Richard Hannon’s lightly-raced charge looks set for another big run.

The three-year-old is yet to get his head in front, but he has had only five career starts and Hannon’s runner has been dropped two pounds for his last run at Sandown.

Palamon wasn’t disgraced when slowly away on heavy ground at Sandown last time out, and back on a better surface, the three-year-old can gain a first career victory.

7.45 – Eponina @ 22/1

Eponina has scored ten times from 40 starts on turf and Mick Appleby’s prolific nine-year-old can strike again at a big price in the seven-furlong handicap at 19:45.

The latest of those victories came at Nottingham in June and Eponina is only two pounds higher than that mark here.

There was a disappointing run over six furlongs at Leicester last time out, but that looks too short a trip for the nine-year-old, with four of her wins coming over the specialist seven furlong distance.

Ground conditions should be fine for Appleby’s versatile charge and she can record an 11th turf success.

8.20 – Equiano Springs @ 11/4

Equiano Springs stayed on well to score over course and distance 20 days ago and the nine-year-old made it two wins from three starts on the July Course.

Tom Tate’s veteran has also won four times on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile track and it’s clear that Equiano Springs loves the surrounds of this venue.

Tate’s runner arrives in good form and this race should suit with another victory well within his grasp.
