Newcastle races scaled

Tuesday spoils us again with a NINE race all-weather card from Newcastle, on their Tapeta surface (12.30 - 17.05)

Stacks of the north's top stables and pilots are present, and a brilliant afternoon's racing is assured.

Newcastle tips, Tuesday

  • 13.40 - Fouroneohfever @ 9/4
  • 15.25 - Trais Fluors each-way @ 13/2

13.40 - Fouroneohfever @ 9/4

A 7f restricted novice for 2-yr-olds - and the selection Fouroneohfever is a George Boughey-trained youngster making his second start.

On debut at Wolves 12 days ago he ran very well, fading late but still finishing third. His shrewd handler looks to strike quickly in what I'm sure he'll feel is a winnable heat.

Some nice yards oppose but comprise mainly horses who haven't really exceeded what our selection has achieved, or indeed haven't even faced the starter yet at all. Mr Boughey is frankly a master with juveniles, in the Karl Burke class for me, and he's booked the excellent Callum Shepherd to do the steering.

15.25 - Trais Fluors each-way @ 13/2

We're paying FOUR places each-way, so that's the way I'll be playing this one. This is a Class 4 handicap over a mile for older horses (4+), and our selection is a 9-yr-old ex-Channon inmate now in the care of Linda Perrett.

The gelding has had an amazingly lengthy and varied career in France, Ireland and the UK, with trainers including Andre Fabre and Ken Condon. He's slipped a county mile in the ratings, and runs off 70 here. Billy Lee nearly won a Listed contest on him at Navan over three years ago, when rated 110.

Needless to say, should he delve deep and find just a wee bit of that on Tuesday he'll be long gone before the others know what's hit them! He was second over a mile at Kempton three weeks ago with a best-performance for some time. In a bit of nick, he can go close here and hopefully reward each-way support.
