Newcastle Tips: Mac can march to success

It’s all-weather all the way with Newcastle hosting a bumper nine-race card on Thursday evening, with the action getting underway at 15:35.
Among our three tips, Marching Mac was narrowly denied in a hat-trick bid last time out but Phil McEntee’s hope can return to winning ways in the north east.

17:45 - Marching Mac @ 12/1
Marching Mac was beaten only half a length when bidding to land a hat-trick of victories at Bath 21 days ago and the effort suggests that the winning isn’t done yet.
Phil McEntee’s charge was keen on bad ground last time out, but the four-year-old still ran an excellent race to only go down narrowly under a double penalty.
The four-year-old is up to a mark of 85 this evening, but Marching Mac is in good form and there should be a strong pace to take the sprinter into the race.
McEntee’s hope has never won on the artificial surfaces, but he hasn’t been on the all-weather for over 12 months and the most recent similar run was a good second-placed finish at Chelmsford.

18:15 - Hilltop @ 11/2
Hilltop looked capable of further progress when winning well at Wolverhampton in September and it may be too soon to discount the four-year-old.
The Daniel & Claire Kubler-trained filly could only finish third at Wolverhampton, but she stayed on well at that speed-favouring track and was never nearer at the finish under jockey Nicola Currie.
Warren Fentiman takes over in the saddle this evening and the five-pound claim of the talented young jockey effectively drops Hilltop back to the mark she was successful off at Wolves in September.

19:45 - Pockley @ 2/1
Pockley bolted up over five furlongs at Newcastle 30 days ago and the seven-year-old is fancied to follow up over six furlongs in the final race on the card at 19:45.
There was no quick reappearance for Linda Perratt’s charge, who was hiked up ten pounds for the easy success, but the gelding had a rating of 81 two years ago and this evening’s mark of 60 doesn’t look too restrictive.
Pockley was supported from double-figure prices to 18/5 favourite at Newcastle last time out, suggesting connections felt the seven-year-old was a long way ahead of his mark, and that could be borne out again this evening.
