Six races at Newbury on Friday, August 18th, including a Listed contest for fillies over 5f. The action takes place between 2.05pm and 4.44pm.

Many of the leading jockeys are in attendance, and the closing apprentice handicap features two of the most promising in Conor Planas and Alec Voikhansky.

3.45 Miaharris @ 5/2

Some lovely fillies in this Listed contest including my selection, trained by Owen Burrows and ridden by Oisin Murphy.

Has run just the once, a maiden over this trip at Sandown 23 days ago, running out a comfortable scorer. She recorded a useful Racing Post Rating that day and steps into potential black type company with every chance of improving again.

She’ll surely come on for that solitary run and also benefits from having Murphy up top.

4.55 Al Hargah @ 10/3

My selection is a 3-yr-old filly in excellent form over the last month or so, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by promising apprentice Alec Voikhansky.

It’s a race for our up-and-coming riders, and Alec has certainly been making the most of opportunities coming his way this term. Back to the horse – and at the lower levels, consistency is an admirable and fairly rare quality. Al Hargah has been the model of it in recent outings, and she races here off the same mark (66) as when narrowly pipped at Windsor just a few days ago.

The swift reappearance is heartening, and she has run well here before. The apprentice on board is one of the best in the field for me, another massive plus.
