NAP of the Day: Porter the pick at Ludlow

Five midweek meetings make up the programme across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with action to cater for all tastes.

Jumps racing comes from Sedgefield and Ludlow, while they go on the Flat at Nottingham, Navan and Kempton (AW), with action from 13:28 through until 20:10.

Wednesday's NAP is bidding to enhance a perfect Ludlow record on return from a short break for trainer Emma Lavelle.

A new season commences at Ludlow on Wednesday afternoon and it could be worth siding with dual course winner PORTER IN THE PARK to bag another victory in the Remembering Margaret Roberts Mares' Handicap Hurdle.

The Walk In The Park mare is a perfect 2-2 at this venue, with wins over 3m in April last year and then over C&D in March this year. The most recent of those wins came from this mark of 118.

She went up 5lb for that success and was a little out of sorts in three summer appearances at Haydock, Uttoxeter and Market Rasen.

She's had a short break since and it's worth noting her previous course win in the spring came when returning from a short absence.

The forecast quick ground will be to her liking, with both of those previous course wins coming on good ground.

With the exception of Versace Twentyone, who was second at Stratford in the summer on her most recent start, most of this eight-runner field come here with something to prove.

La Marquise scored in a 2m novice over hurdles here in October last year for trainer Jamie Snowden but disappointed at Newbury over Christmas on her only outing since.

She's one to note in the betting on her seasonal return, with clear prospects for better based on that debut win here 12 months ago in a race that worked out quite well.

Porter In The Park is well-handicapped and has former champion jockey Harry Cobden for company again now.
