Nap of the Day: West is best on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival

The less said about Wednesday's selection, the better. Gordon Elliott's yard isn't firing and it showed. We move.

Hopefully it'll be a return to winning ways for Nap of the Day followers on Thursday, courtesy of one for a trainer who IS going well at Cheltenham this week.

The 7/2 favourite in a Pertemps Final? Are you mad? Hear me out...

There's few, if any better than Dan Skelton at target training and SUPREMELY WEST looks to have been laid out for this.

The eight-year-old son of Westerner was bought by northern owner Jimmy Fyffe for £24k in May last year and sent into training with the Alcester handler.

No time was wasted in getting him qualified for the Pertemps Final, as he lined up in a qualifier at Cheltenham's October Meeting where he finished third of 17, just over five lengths off the winner.

Who was that? A certain Ma Shantou, off a mark of just 129 and in receipt of eight pounds from the selection. He's since won a Cleeve Hurdle and is a single-figure price for the Stayers' Hurdle just over an hour earlier on Thursday.

The runner-up was Electric Mason for Chris Gordon. He followed up in the valuable handicap hurdle on Betfair Chase day at Haydock in November off four pounds higher, earning a further rise of seven. Red-hot form, then.

Job done, Supremely West then managed to show little enough in races back at HQ, at Sandown and Aintree to see his mark to drop down to 135 - two pounds lower than the aforementioned qualifier.

He looks a very well-handicapped individual and the vibes coming out of the yard are strong. Very strong indeed.

This is a weak renewal of the Pertemps as far as I'm concerned and although it's a short price about one in a 24-runner handicap over three miles on the New Course, I think he's going to be very hard to beat for a trainer enjoying a fine Festival so far.
