Nap of the Day: Oldschool Outlaw is the one to beat at Fairyhouse

You won’t want to miss any of the racing action across Britain and Ireland on Sunday and there are six meetings taking place. Bath and Southwell provide the day’s Flat fixtures in Britain and there are also National Hunt cards from Plumpton and Market Rasen. It’s Jump racing all the way in Ireland, with Cork hosting the Grade 3 Bar 1 Betting Chase, as well as Day 2 of Fairyhouse’s Easter Festival. There are a couple of Grade 1s on the card; the WillowWarm Gold Cup and the Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle.
Our expert has selected their Nap of the day, which runs at Fairyhouse, and the horse in question can bounce back after suffering a defeat at Cheltenham last month. She also looks set to be suited by a step up in trip and a big run is anticipated.

Gordon Elliott has had another excellent season and is still managing to keep Willie Mullins at bay in the fight for the Irish Jumps Trainers’ Championship. The winner of this race gets €58,900 and that prize money would be a welcome boost to Elliott’s chances.
OLDSCHOOL OUTLAW appears to be the most likely winner and the JP McManus-owned mare brings a high level of form to the table. She can break Willie Mullins’ stranglehold on this race and prevent him from making it five in a row.
The daughter of Walk In The Park started off in point-to-points and wasn’t disgraced when second on her debut in that sphere at Tattersalls Farm in December 2024. Third at Tinahely after that, the winner has boosted the form by winning twice under Rules since.
She didn’t join Elliott straight away however, as she ran in a couple of bumpers for Gary Caldwell beforehand. Second over two miles at Leopardstown last March, she then ran in a Grade 2 at Aintree but failed to fire on that occasion, finishing seventh.
It was a much improved performance on her first start for Elliott in a Listed bumper at Navan in November and she kicked clear impressively to score by six-and-a-half lengths.
Bambino Fever was the big favourite on her hurdling debut next time but Oldschool Outlaw pulled off a shock when getting the better of the Champion Bumper winner at Naas in December. Obviously she had a fitness advantage but it was a good performance.
Elliott’s six-year-old then stepped up in class, contesting a Grade 3 novice and she absolutely bolted up, coming out on top by nine lengths. Second in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, she just didn’t quite have enough pace to catch the winner.
Going up to 2m4f should suit, on that evidence, and she is very much the one to beat here. This looks like a good opportunity to return to winning ways.
