Do not use owen mcmahon's nap of the day

Forgiveness is the theme for the NAP of the Day on Wednesday - let's hope it pays off...

NAP of the Day

  • 14:15 Ffos Las - Georges Saint @ 2/1

If Georges Saint, who's winless in nine starts for Venetia Williams, is ever going to get his head in front, it's at Ffos Las on Wednesday.

When I say the seven-year-old has everything in his favour here, I mean everything.

Firstly, he's race-fit. Three - two of which are prominent in the betting - of his seven rivals for this 0-125 handicap chase over an extended 2m3f are making their debut over fences after a long lay-off. That fitness edge, especially on heavy ground, is a big plus.

He also runs off a career-low mark of 111 - which is essentially 106 when you factor in the five-pound claim of jockey Ned Fox. A reduction of two pounds for a respectable chase debut in a warm contest at Chepstow looks generous to me.

Then, you've got to consider conditions. This horse wants it at least soft, which can't be said for all of his opponents. He should relish this test, while others might not.

Finally, what about the form of the yard? It's Venetia season, with the Herefordshire handler operating at a quite outstanding 46% strike rate with 12 winners from her last 26 runners.

It takes some forgiveness to back a horse who doesn't know how to win, but I think the selection is worth one last chance given what's in his favour.
