After a promising debut at Carlisle just over a month ago, DANDY STYLE is tipped to open his account at Thirsk on Wednesday.
Bryan Smart's two-year-old was fourth, just two-and-a-half lengths off the pace, in Cumbria and the form of that Class 2 contest is working out well so far.
The winner, Sands Of Spain for Andrew Balding, obliged again at Newcastle the following month to earn an opening mark of 84, while the runner-up did the business at Hamilton on his subsequent start before finishing 12/23 in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. The handicapper has awarded that one a rating of 80.
The third-placed Wor Faayth bolted up at Hamilton the other week and Bravo Hotel (77), who finished just under two lengths behind the selection at Carlisle, was third in a pair of classy contests prior.
Dandy Style likely performed to a figure in the mid-high 70s on debut, and that can be marked up slightly on account of a slow start. He lost a couple of lengths out of the gates and over the minimum trip, that almost always proves costly.
I was impressed by the way he stuck to his task late on, suggesting the step up to six furlongs will suit and can bring about further improvement.
Crucially, the selection receives a handy seven pounds from main market rival Tropical Dreamer, who's penalised for a modest win at Beverley back in April. His subsequent fourth over the same course and distance is good form, but I'm not convinced he has all that much improvement in him.
Of the rest, it's newcomers Circle Of Trust and Horu Kanu who need a market check. They make certain appeal on paper for top connections.
However, Dandy Style is the one to beat in these circumstances as far as I'm concerned. He's made an encouraging start to his career, is open to significant improvement and represents an in-form trainer who's had one winner and two seconds from his last nine runners.
At 5/2, he's my Nap of the Day.
