Nap of the Day: Back Bowen to do the business – again

Following a fruitful seven days or so, I'm back on Nap of the Day duty hoping to start the new week on a high.

It's north of the border to Perth I go in search of a winner, putting my faith in a team bang in form.

I'm running out of superlatives for Sean Bowen.

The newly-crowned Champion Jockey is unstoppable at the moment. He's operating at a seriously impressive strike rate of 38% in the past fortnight, courtesy of 12 winners from 32 rides.

If you have the means, I suggest watching back his victory on brother Mickey's Letterson Lady at Market Rasen last Friday. For me, it encapsulated everything that makes the 27-year-old so good.

I was following the race live at Betfred HQ and even though Bowen's mount still had plenty to do turning for home, once he was there or there abouts jumping the last it felt an inevitability more than a possibility. What is it they say about throwing kitchen sinks?

Let's not give the Welshman all the credit, however. One of the other reasons for Sean's recent form is that of Olly Murphy, who boasts a 43% strike rate over the last couple of weeks.

The Warren Chase handler is going great guns, which bodes well for SCHMILSSON ahead of Wednesday's assignment at Perth.

The six-year-old faces four rivals in this novices' handicap chase over two miles, and I think he's got outstanding claims.

He's quite exposed for his age, but his latest effort in a Class 2 at Haydock, when just three lengths behind the now 137-rated Givemefive, suggests he's in the form of his life.

Now, under Bowen for just the second time this season, he makes his debut over the bigger obstacles in modest company.

Garde Des Champs is the big threat to the selection according to the betting. Lucinda Russell's nine-year-old is the form pick, but he's totally exposed at this point and he's been raised a couple of pounds for a defeat last time out. Returning jockey Jack Power only claims five pounds instead of seven, too.

Disco Annie has raced just twice over fences and is only seven, so there could be more to come from her, but she must put two massively underwhelming efforts behind her - meanwhile, Nathan Wells and Darkest Day are hard to advise.

This looks a fantastic opportunity for Schmilsson to make a winning start over fences for a team in scintillating form.
