Kempton Park is the destination for Wednesday’s NAP – a beautifully-bred filly for Simon & Ed Crisford who should take advantage of what looks a lenient opening mark.
NAP of the Day
- 16:17 Kempton – Mezzo Soprano @ 6/4
Famous last words, but how is Mezzo Soprano odds-against for this 0-75 handicap over 7f at Kempton on Wednesday?
The three-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel made her belated racecourse debut at Catterick in August and was very impressive, albeit in a modest affair. She ‘only’ won by 2¼L, but it could have been 5+ if her pilot on the day wanted it to be.
She was then sent to Thirsk a few weeks later, down in trip to 6f. I’m not sure that suited, but it didn’t matter as she was much too good in the end. That form is a lot stronger, with the runner-up Midream franking it at Windsor earlier this week.
She now goes handicapping having been awarded an opening mark of 75. To say that looks generous would be an understatement. I think she’s already worthy of an 80+ rating at least, never mind the tons of improvement that’s expected.
This also doesn’t look a great race. Her only rival, at least as far as the market’s concerned, is James Tate’s King Of Ithaca who doesn’t look to have even a fraction of the scope of the selection.
To put it bluntly, I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t go off significantly shorter and win this comfortably to take her unbeaten record to 3-3.
