Nap of the Day: Appleby may have found more Treasure

The weather has once again wreaked havoc, leading to the postponement of National Hunt meetings at Leicester and Hereford on Tuesday. Wolverhampton's all-weather offering keeps the torch lit, with nine races scheduled from 16:30 to 20:30.

There are several horses to like at the meeting, with James Evans' Bungle Bay looking to back up a pre-Christmas C&D victory in a 7f Handicap at 20:00 but our focus is on a wonderfully well-bred newcomer in the novice stakes at 17:30.

There is a lot to like about TREASURE FLEET ahead of his racecourse bow on Tuesday.

A 800,000gns breeze-up purchase for Godolphin as a two-year-old, he was gelded in October and finally makes his debut at Dunstall Park.

If pedigree is your thing, then following a son of Kingman is sure to be attractive. Interest is also heightened when discovering his mother, Pure Excellence, also won on debut, while his dam's sire was a multiple Grade 1 winner in Australia.

Hopes are high for Treasure Fleet to continue the winning line and Wolverhampton regular Callum Shepherd looks like a decent pick in the plate for his first appearance.

Likely opposition is expected to come from Chemical. He also comes in after being gelded in October and connections will be hoping for consistency after a wayward career that started with two placings last August but saw diminishing returns in the autumn.

Lightning Force (a decent fifth here before Christmas on his first run for John Ryan and a previous runner-up at Kempton) and Crackalackin (fourth on debut last month at Chelmsford) are other options.

However, Charlie Appleby knows how to place a horse and Treasure Fleet deserves attention on his first start.

The pedigree and the connections are there for the three-year-old to start with a bang, with Shepherd's presence another plus for punters eyeing an early career victory.
