Nap of the day with owen mcmahon main 2

Following a 3/1 winner on Betfred 2000 Guineas Day at Newmarket, I'm hoping to pick up from where I left off on Tuesday, as I go to South Wales for the Nap of the Day.

Nap of the Day -  Tuesday, May 6

If there was any doubt, the last couple of weeks have proved that Sean Bowen is the jockey of the season - in the UK and Ireland.

The 27-year-old won the Irish Grand National aboard Haiti Couleurs two Mondays ago, and then on the Saturday he stormed to success in the Sandown Gold Cup on Resplendent Grey.

His next ride came five days later, at the Punchestown Festival, after returning from his stag do in Tenerife. He was doing the steering on one of Tony Martin's in a 22-runner handicap hurdle and of course, he did the business again.

The Champion Jockey is operating at an outstanding 39% strike rate in the past fortnight, courtesy of 11 winners from 28 rides. It's frightening form.

The Welshman is in Cymru - specifically Ffos Las - on Tuesday, and he can help Warren Greatrex's GOLAN LOOP open his account in this novices' hurdle over 2m6f.

The five-year-old son of Walk In The Park was a relatively costly purchase (£85k) after winning a PTP at the second attempt around this time last year, but so far he's failed to live up to his price tag.

A debut not without promise at Plumpton in early December was followed by a hard-luck story as the gelding was brought down just after the second-last when coming to make his challenge in a classy affair at Ascot just before Christmas - but his subsequent efforts at Plumpton and Lingfield were very disappointing.

However, the ground mightn't have been to his liking on both occasions and the fact he's had wind surgery in the meantime suggests a physical issue may have been present also.

He's had 75 days on the sidelines to recuperate and Greatrex, who's in good form himself (23% strike rate), looks to have found a great opportunity for him to record his first victory under rules.

It's a modest affair, to be frank. Herja is the odds-on favourite at time of publication but she hardly sets a high standard. There's nothing separating her best effort and the selection's.

Canyouseeme is a pointer returning from a 356-day layoff, while Solal Nonatais and The Great Escape must take considerable steps forward after poor debuts.

As far as I'm concerned this is a match between Herja and Golan Loop, with the latter getting a confident vote under the man of the moment.
