Nap of the Day: Sangster’s Star to shine on Tuesday

After a joyless run, we landed a much-needed winner last time out on Saturday, courtesy of Gaelic Warrior at Sandown.

Hopefully that can be the catalyst for a joyous run, continuing with Tuesday's Nap of the Day from Wolverhampton.

I was quite taken by the run of Ollie Sangster's RADIO STAR in defeat to my Nap of the Day at Southwell earlier this month.

The three-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner, who fetched €100k at a breeze-up around this time last year, was returning from 153 days on the sidelines and it was my opinion that fitness would cost her - and ultimately it did.

However, she certainly made me sweat for a moment or two, getting uncomfortably close to my selection at the line. In another couple of strides, she was ahead.

It was a highly-encouraging run from a filly who showed glimpses of ability as a juvenile. It looks like she's trained on, and is more than capable of troubling the judge off her unchanged mark of 70.

Three weeks later, she returns to handicap company after struggling at a much-higher level last season. That was a Class 3, whereas Tuesday's assignment is a Class 5.

With that good run under her belt and the brilliant Hollie Doyle taking over in the saddle, I'm expecting a career-best performance.

Of her four rivals, it's Nightbird I fear most. If she can get back to her best and put that comprehensive defeat from a fortnight ago well behind her, Simon & Ed Crisford's daughter of Invincible Spirit is a big danger.

Baileys Jubilation is in a similar boat. Her best form gives her every chance in this company, but she must bounce back from a couple of disappointing runs this term.

Startling also warrants respect under a featherweight, for as much as she looks quite exposed already and has a six-day turnaround to overcome.

But all things considered, I think Radio Star has a favourite's chance and 11/4 rates excellent value.
