Nap of the day with owen mcmahon 3

It's the start of a new week as far as I'm concerned and I'm crossing the Irish Sea on Tuesday on Nap of the Day duty, hoping to begin from where I left off on Saturday - in the winners' enclosure.

Connections have always thought plenty of DOCTOR STEINBERG, but he's proved tricky to train in the early stages of his career.

Willie Mullins' five-year-old fetched €95k at the sales a couple of years back and then made his debut in the George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper at Fairyhouse last March, won by 2025 Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero Kopek Des Bordes.

According to Patrick Mullins, the selection was regarded as a genuine threat to the eventual winner, who'd suffered an interrupted preparation for the race, that day, suggesting he shows plenty on the gallops at Closutton.

He was ultimately a bit disappointing, finishing 22 lengths off his stablemate back in third, but in fairness there's a bit of depth to the form, with the runner-up Clap Of Thunder and fourth-placed We're Red And Blue both rated 118 today.

Clearly things haven't been plain sailing in the meantime, for the Doctor Dino gelding wasn't seen again for 361 days, reappearing in a Clonmel bumper this March.

It was a highly-encouraging effort in County Tipperary, finishing second of 15, beaten just under three lengths by Edward Power's Sunny South West, who was in receipt of seven pounds. The rest of the field were over 17 lengths adrift.

His conqueror has since finished fifth in the Grade 1 bumper at the Punchestown Festival last month and bolted up by over eight lengths in an ordinary affair at Tipperary around a fortnight ago. That gives the form a strong look, especially in the context of Tuesday's contest.

It looks an outstanding opportunity for Doctor Steinberg to open his account at the third attempt.

Gordon Elliott's Rapid Redemption, a son of Doyen out of a Presenting mare, looks the main danger. He wasn't that expensive but is well-connected and must be respected.

Of the other 10 set for this 2m½f INH Flat Race, I couldn't rule out Jisco Du Brem, Ned In The Park, Jurado or Hickeys Hill - but ultimately the selection ought to take all the beating.
