Nap of the day

Back from a wee break, and looking forward to another tremendous week of top sport. Fairly quiet-ish on the racing front on Tuesday, but there's a smashing meeting at Market Rasen I wish I was attending and it's to the fabulous Lincolnshire venue that I'm metaphorically visiting for the nap of the day.

Action starts at 13:50, and the race I've got my eye on is the 15:20, a mares' handicap hurdle. Here's the theory stuff ...

Nap Of The Day - Tuesday, February 18

  • 15:20 Market Rasen - Miss Cynthia @ 6/4

15:20 - Miss Cynthia @ 6/4

A five-year-old mare formerly in the care of Sir Mark Prescott on the level, and now tackling hurdle race number three - our nap selection for Tuesday, February 18.

Lucy Wadham trains, in Newmarket, so she didn't have to travel far from Sir Mark's at Heath House. She reached a high point rating of 96 during her flat racing career and mixed it with the likes of Kyprios, Trueshan and Sweet William in various staying tests including the Cadran and the Henry II.

Tough and durable then, and since joining Lucy just before Christmas has had two runs over hurdles - both creditable seconds, first a rather distant affair at Fakenham, and then at Warwick last time 29 days go, finding only a Nicky Henderson/JP/Nico de B mare 1.25l too good.

Tom Cannon has ridden Miss Cynthia on both recent spins and again has the riding assignment this afternoon. She's getting a nice bit of weight from both Lavida Avida and Sunset Hill, who look her main dangers (8lb and 6lb respectively), and she can open her account on handicap debut at 'Rasen.'

Encouragingly it's Tom's only booked mount on the card and the trainer/jockey combo came within three quarters of a length of of lifting Ascot's £57k Swinley Chase on Saturday with Terresita. A small degree of doubtless welcome compensation hopefully awaits.
