Nap of the Day: Bank on 8/1 Cawthorne on Tuesday

A couple of no-shows, a near-miss, a non-runner and just the one winner resulted in a frustrating last week for this Nap of the Day column.
However, we start afresh on Tuesday with one I believe represents serious value at Hereford.
Nap of the Day - Tuesday, November 12
- 14:25 Hereford - Cawthorne Banker @ 8/1
The O'Neills are going great guns at the moment - operating at a 24% strike rate courtesy of nine winners from 37 runners in the past fortnight - which bodes well for CAWTHORNE BANKER in this 2m5f handicap chase at Hereford on Tuesday.
The six-year-old son of Flemensfirth, a half-brother to useful mare Nina The Terrier, fetched £70k as a store in May 2021 and he showed plenty of ability in four bumper runs between October-February during the 2022/23 season.
However, things didn't immediately go to plan in novice hurdles last term. He was comfortably beaten on his first four outings, earning a lowly mark of 93, but something soon clicked as he subsequently won two of his next three, rising to a mark of 107.
I can't say for certain, but it appears this horse is completely ground dependent. His form on good to soft or worse reads 370853, while on good or better it's 22121474.
He made his debut over fences at Worcester in July and ran no race whatsoever, but that was his ninth run in seven months so I'm entitled to forgive him for it.
Especially as his reappearance this season, exactly 98 days later, was a much-improved effort. This time he was fourth, beaten 11 lengths by a progressive-looking chaser.
Second that day at Ludlow was the reopposing Superbolt. The selection has over 10 lengths to find to reverse that form, but there's good reason to suggest that may happen.
Firstly, they race off wildly different terms here. The selection, who's been dropped a generous three pounds by the handicapper, is now a whopping 14lbs better off with Nigel Twiston-Davies' four-year-old. He should also strip fitter for that outing and therefore isn't conceding race fitness.
I can't work out why there's such a big price difference between the two, with Superbolt trading at 13/8 and Cawthorne Banker at 8/1. The latter rates serious value in my book.
Mahler Moon is likely to give it a good go but ultimately he's yet to win in his career, while Fat Sam is 10 years old and up four pounds for finishing second last time out.
Moodofthemoment is the big danger as far as I'm concerned. He's in the form of his life and ought to make another bold bid. I also wouldn't discount Iron D'Ex off such a low mark.
But ultimately, Cawthorne Banker has lots going for him and looks seriously overpriced at time of publication.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
