Lucky 15 Tips: Four to follow on Thursday

We are in the thick of the Flat season and Thursday’s Lucky 15 features races from that code, opting to swerve Sligo’s jumps action Chelmsford’s all-weather card.

Brighton and Nottingham provide the daytime Flat fare on British soil before a couple of top cards at Sandown and Chepstow, where the Racing League heads for its third week.

14:10 Brighton - Heer’s Sadie @ 15/2

The Brighton Challenge Cup may be the feature race in Sussex but the opening Apprentice Handicap over a mile is the most open and is therefore the starting point for this Lucky 15.

Plenty of the field arrive with course form but Heer’s Sadie’s 20 runs at the venue is an eyecatching statistic, only made better by the fact she has finished in the top three in half of those efforts.

Julia & Shelley Birkett’s mare won back-to-back races at Yarmouth earlier in the summer and has a top apprentice on board in Ashley Lewis, who has won three of his last 13 rides.

14:50 Nottingham - Starakova @ 7/1

Form figures of 804 are hard to get excited by at first glance but a delve into those runs will show that Starakova could perform better upped to 6f for her nursery debut at Nottingham.

She tailed off at Ffos Las on penultimate start but was travelling well before being hampered on that occasion, eventually finishing last despite being in touch with the leaders until 2f out.

She never really got going over 5f at Sandown last time but made some late headway, suggesting an increased trip could suit.

Kieran Shoemark is the best jockey Starakova has been paired with to date and he could bring out plenty of improvement in the two-year-old.

17:30 Chepstow - Tiger Tulip @ 11/1

The Racing League’s trip to Chepstow means there are some big fields to attack, including in the opener over 6f.

It looks a wide-open affair but, after leaving a slow start to the year behind her, Tiger Tulip makes some serious appeal for Heather Main after following up May’s 6f win as a 33/1 shot at Windsor with a two-length victory in a 17-runner field at Newbury a month later.

She already has Racing League form, finishing second at Yarmouth in week one, and has avoided the handicapper despite that impressive run.

With Kevin Stott, who is operating at a near 40 per cent strike-rate over the past fortnight, in the saddle, Tiger Tulip looks set for another bold run.

20:20 Sandown - Lordsbridge Blu @ 5/1

It is small fields at Sandown until the closing race, in which 10 runners will battle it out over a mile, a distance which could prove to be right up Lordsbridge Blu’s street.

The son of Havana Grey won his final race as a novice but has yet to taste success in handicaps. However, as a result, he has dropped in the weights drastically and is now 6lb lower than his opening mark and 9lb better off than his peak rating of 84.

He has done most of his running at about 1m2f but has often weakened late on over that trip. This drop back to 1m may bring some much-needed improvement and Lordsbridge Blu can go well.
