Do not use owen mcmahon's nap of the day

On a relatively busy Thursday, it's a novice hurdler at Huntingdon that's selected as my NAP of the Day.

NAP of the Day

  • 13:25 Huntingdon - Moon Chime 5/4

To put it bluntly, I don't think this maiden hurdle over two miles will take much winning. At all.

Of the 14 set to go to post, five are having their first run over obstacles and make nothing more than slight appeal - while the standard set by eight of the other nine is fairly modest.

For me, the exception is David Killahena & Graeme McPherson's Moon Chime.

The six-year-old gelding won a bumper for Fergal O'Brien back in May last year before making the switch to Killahena & McPherson's Gloucestershire yard, where he's continued to thrive.

That October he won in the same sphere at Southwell, by a widening seven lengths, before a solid third in a competitive Listed contest at Cheltenham the following month.

He then made his hurdling debut at Kempton on Boxing Day - a sign in itself as to the horse's ability - and shaped with plenty of promise when finishing third, beaten by three lengths, to a nice horse of Harry Derham's.

For me, that's comfortably the best form on offer in this field. I expect the selection to improve a good amount for that outing too, so he ought to be hard to beat in this company.

To be honest, I expected Moon Chime to open odds-on for this and won't be at all surprised to see him jump off at such a price, so I suggest taking 5/4 now.

Moon chime to win the 13. 25 huntingdon at 5/4
