The NAP on Thursday is taken to back up a relatively promising debut in what looks a modest maiden at Chelmsford.

NAP of the Day

  • 18:00 Chelmsford – Just Rita @ 9/4

This maiden contest over a mile looks extremely winnable.

Charlie Johnston’s Alpen Power just about sets the standard, which proves my point about the quality of the field as he’s winless in four, struggling in a handicap last time out off a mark of 74. I’ll be shocked, frankly, if he was to get off the mark in this company.

Four of the other five horses with form in the book are pretty uninspiring too, with JUST RITA for Marco Botti the one that interests me.

The two-year-old daughter of Bated Breath was an eye-catching debutant at Lingfield last month, breaking slowly and forced to race out back, widest of all, before finishing with a flourish. She should have learned plenty for that experience, and shapes like she’ll love stepping up in trip.

This looks an excellent opportunity for the filly, who remains entered in the £150,000 Tatterstalls October Auction Stakes at Newmarket next month, to break her duck.

Also entered in that contest at HQ is George Boughey’s newcomer Green Sigma. Under the red-hot William Buick, he’s the main danger to the selection and any notable market support should be taken very seriously.
