NAP of the Day: Flight Plan can land Pomfret prize

Just two meetings make up the Sunday schedule in the UK and Ireland, and there is a slight lull before Galway and Glorious Goodwood get underway this week. 

Jumps action is at Uttoxeter on Sunday, while they race on the Flat at Pontefract, where the Listed Pomfret Stakes (15:12) is the feature race on the card. Our Sunday NAP represents Karl Burke in that Listed contest and is bidding to win the race at the second time of asking.

A top prize of £28,000 is on offer as seven runners are set to contest the Listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract and FLIGHT PLAN could be the answer for Karl Burke. 

The four-year-old Night Of Thunder colt was runner-up in this contest last summer behind market leader Poker Face and it is likely to have been circled in the calendar for another crack for some time. 

Flight Plan signed off last season by winning the Group 2 Park Stakes at Leopardstown over a mile on good ground during the Irish Champions Weekend in September. 

He's yet to win in three runs this season, but that can be mitigated, as two of those have come in Group 1 company via the Lockinge at Newbury and the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot, where he admittedly looked slightly out of his depth. 

In between those runs, however, he ran a much better race at Haydock (7f, good) in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes in June, beaten just over two lengths behind Tiber Flow. 

He is eased in grade now and has a pair of first-time cheekpieces deployed by a trainer who has been among the winners in recent days.
