NAP of the Day: Caballo De Mar to continue winning spree

There are just a couple of meetings taking place in the UK on Sunday, while Ireland enjoys a siesta ahead of the Punchestown Festival getting going on Tuesday afternoon. Turf racing comes from Wetherby, while all-weather fare takes palace at Southwell with a busy eight-race offering.
Sunday's NAP of the day runs in the last contest on the card at the Nottinghamshire layout and could be worth waiting for given his recent progressive profile for trainer George Scott.
NAP Of The Day - Sunday, April 27
- 18:45 Southwell - Caballo De Mar @ 4/1
18:45 Southwell - Caballo De Mar @ 4/1
There are a number of horses headed for Southwell on Sunday bidding to extend winning sequences.
Between them, Drifts Away, Overture, Westmorian and CABALLO DE MAR have won the last 14 races they have contested.
There are reasons to be supportive of each of the quartet in their quests to keep their runs going, but it is Caballo De Mar who appeals most for trainer George Scott.
The Phoenix Of Spain gelding is bidding for a five-timer now stepped up to this extended two-miles for the first time.
He signed off 2024 with wins at Ayr (1m5f, good) in September and over 1m6f here in October, his improvement is clear to see for the step up in trip after shaping with some promise at up to 1m2f in his first five runs.
He had a winter break and was back here over 1m6f in March to justify odds-on favouritism in a Class 5 contest.
At the start of this month he went in again over that same trip, with rival here Gibside behind in second spot, this time in Class 4 company.
Tim Easterby's charge is 3lb better off now, but may do well to revere the placings against this upwardly mobile four-year-old.
Caballo De Mar was well on top at the line in that race here just over three weeks ago. The way he travels through his races offers plenty of hope that he will see the distance out now tackling this new trip.
He's in a higher grade again now and this demands a bit more from a 6lb higher mark, but there is every chance he will have the answer.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
