Nap of the day generic

There is plenty of jumps action for racing fans on Sunday, with three meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.

Day three of Cheltenham's November Meeting - where our Nap of the Day comes from - features the Greatwood Hurdle, while in Ireland the ultra-competitive Troytown Handicap Chase is the feature at Navan. They are joined by National Hunt fare from Fontwell where the Southern National takes place.

Dan and Harry Skelton have some excellent chances on day three of the November Meeting at Cheltenham and perhaps none better than CALICO in the Three Counties Christmas Handicap Chase over two miles.

He is one of a quartet of contenders and he faces a familiar foe in Nigel Twiston-Davies' Matata.

They clashed over course and distance at the Showcase meeting here last month, with Calico getting the verdict by a neck as they crossed the line in what was both horses' seasonal comeback.

Matata was close to the lead through, but Calico came to challenge at the second last and hit the front for Harry Skelton.

They were a length to the good clearing the final fence but, to his credit, Matata fought back and made a proper scrap of it up the Cheltenham hill.

The margin was slender at the line, but there was never any impression that Matata might go by again and, arguably, Calico won with a bit more in hand than that margin suggested.

The runner-up gets a 1lb pull for this rematch and it should be close again, but it is a mild surprise that Matata was put in as favourite when the market opened.

With that in mind, Calico is chosen to uphold the form, given the superb jump he produced at that final fence here last month.

He may have been idling a tiny bit when he cleared that obstacle with a lead, but he did more than enough on the run to the line to suggest he had matters covered.

Gunsight Ridge for Olly Murphy has more on his plate here than when winning at Perth in the spring and the consistent sort lacks a recent run as he returns from a second wind operation.

The fourth runner, Third Time Lucki, was once quite promising for the Skelton team but has missed 584 days ahead of this stable bow for Fergal O'Brien and his new owners. The nine-year-old can only be watched for now.

All in all, this looks a really good chance for Calico to double his Cheltenham tally.
