NAP of the Day: Ladlam to deliver in Sligo

After a cracking Saturday of top-quality Flat action that included the July Cup at Newmarket and the John Smith’s Cup on the Knavesmire, we head over jumps for Sunday’s Nap Of The Day.
With five meetings across Britain and Ireland coming up on Sunday, our focus is on the action taking place at Sligo for their seven-race card which includes some competitive handicaps. Our Nap comes in one of those handicaps on the card and there is a belief that this course specialist is capable of getting another course success on the board.
Sligo is a bit of a horses for courses kind of track given the sharp nature of it. and it often favours those that can lay up with the pace. And a horse that absolutely loves it on the west coast of Ireland is Norman Lee’s Ladiam.
Her form figures at the Cleveragh track read 2151 and both of the wins have been at this sort of distance.
The eight-year-old mare has been slowly working her way back to her better form this year, having gone close at Ballinrobe before then enjoying her second career win at Sligo last time. And as a positive for Sunday’s follow-up attempt, this daughter of Malinas gave the impression that she was only just doing enough in the closing stages that day to secure the success.
Jockey Gary Noonan, who is good value for the 5lb he can still claim, retains the ride and the double seekers look to be getting Ladlam’s preferred good ground once again on Sunday.
Given that she is still well treated on old form, having hit the crossbar a few times from marks in the low 100s a couple of seasons ago, Ladlam looks very capable of a big run in what appears to be a very winnable race for the grade and she deserves to be the outright favourite for this contest.
