Just three meetings on Sunday make up the quota of racing action across the UK and Ireland. They go at Leicester and Ripon on the level as well as over jumps at Downpatrick.

Our Sunday NAP of the Day looked potentially a decent performer for trainer Richard Fahey after his maiden win last time and is fancied to build on that success at the first available opportunity.

NAP of the Day - Sunday, August 11

  • 15:10 Ripon – Lesley's Boy @ 15/8

Yorkshire's garden racecourse is the scene for one of Sunday's two Flat cards and trainer Richard Fahey is fancied to get on the scoresheet via LESLEY'S BOY in the Paula Budge Surprise Birthday Nursery over six furlongs.

The Kodi Bear colt was a last-time-out Wetherby maiden winner and has plenty of scope to build on that now switching to handicaps on just his third start.

He had debuted at York in May, doing so in what has proved to be a well above-average novice contest on the Knavesmire.

That race has thrown up no less than seven subsequent winners. Amongst those were the winner, as well as the second, third and fourth home.

Indeed, the Karl Burke-trained winner Arabie has gone on to plunder a pair of Group-race wins in France under Jim Crowley. Most recently he bagged the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin Stakes at Chantilly.

Lesley's Boy, meanwhile, went to Wetherby in early June and was strongly supported in the betting before winning a 5½f maiden on good ground with Oisin Orr on board for the first time.

They travelled stylishly into that contest and won smoothly, leaving the impression there should be more in the tank if required.

Off the back of it, an opening mark of 77 looks manageable. They now make the move into handicaps in Class 5 company and can be expected to thrive with a step back up in trip not expected to cause undue worry.

15:10 Ripon Odds

With an 18 per cent strike rate at Ripon this season (6-33), Fahey is always worth considering at this venue. Orr has been on board for two of those wins and the Irish rider has taken well to this venue since making the move to nearby Malton in North Yorkshire to link up with the Fahey team.

They have top weight to contend with but there is plenty of substance to the form of those two races Lesley's Boy has contested.

The other last-time-out winner in the mix is Easy Peeler, with the John & Sean Quinn-trained filly having obliged at Catterick in good fashion 18 days ago. She gets 4lb from the selection here and has already run well over C&D on debut last month – but the colt may dominate the finish on this occasion.

Lesley's boy 15. 10 ripon @ 15-8
