Nap of the day generic

There are a trio of meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland on Sunday, with Flat racing from Brighton and Tipperary joined by the jumps meeting from Worcester on the first day of September.

Our Sunday NAP is representing Irish handler Shark Hanlon on the card at Worcester and can open his account over hurdles. Below you can find my NAP of the Day.

NAP of the Day - Sunday, September 1

  • 16:10 Worcester – Brilliant Light @ 6/5

Shark Hanlon has plotted a raid on Worcester with BRILLIANT LIGHT and the Irishman is fancied to make the journey pay on an afternoon when he has several leading chances.

Hanlon, who trained Hewick to win the Grade 1 King George at Kempton on Boxing Day, has a useful record at this track, with three winners and eight more placed runners from just 15 starts.

This Sea The Stars gelding made his bow over hurdles in a maiden at the Galway Festival last month and was well held in finishing sixth of 20, but it was a debut not without promise considering the depth of that race that included next-time-out Ebor fifth Hipop De Loire.

Brilliant Light meanwhile went to Tramore (2m½f, good) and finished second-best in a maiden behind all-the-way winner Expound from the Denis Hogan team, a race in which the front three were clear and the third looked a decent prospect for Henry de Bromhead in the Robcour silks.

Hanlon's runner shaped nicely again in that contest and still has scope for better. That form is just about the best on paper going into this race and he may not need to improve to open his account under 7lb claimer Paddy Hanlon, the trainer's son.

Olly Murphy's Manowest could be the chief danger. He finished second behind Reach For The Moon at this course in July over hurdles. The winner was smart on the Flat, at one time holding Classic credentials, but lost his way. He had been well held in three starts over timber but improved significantly to win here last time.

Manowest can build on that now with in-form Sean Bowen on board but they concede enough weight to the Irish raider and Brilliant Light is one of a number of strong contenders for the Shark on what could be a profitable Sunday afternoon visit to Worcestershire.
