NAP of the Day: Special Ghaiyyath can score under Marquand

There are four UK and Irish race meetings taking place on Monday, with the Flat holding sway in the cards that come from Brighton, Chepstow, Windsor and Roscommon across the afternoon and into the evening.
Our Monday NAP shaped with a good deal of potential on his racecourse bow for Charlie Johnston at Newcastle and now has the help of Windsor's leading rider as he bids to get on the scoresheet for the first time. Below you can find my NAP of the day for Monday, September 2.
NAP of the day - Monday, September 2
- 17:30 Windsor – Special Ghaiyyath @ SP
Following Tom Marquand at Windsor is a traditionally profitable enterprise. The leading rider at the venue over the last five seasons, Marquand has 58 Windsor winners in that time and a level stakes profit of +98.53 to boot.
He's got a typically decent book of rides on the card on Monday, including once-raced colt SPECIAL GHAIYYATH for trainer Charlie Johnston.
The son of the mighty Ghaiyyath made his debut at Newcastle five weeks ago and it was a promising effort.
He tracked the pace in that 7f Tapeta maiden and looked to be coming with a strong challenge as they met the furlong pole, but he didn’t quite have the acceleration of the leading pair and was eventually collared for third close to the line.
That experience shouldn't have been lost on him and the step up in trip here promises to suit him well on his first turf start.
That July contest at Newcastle has worked out quite well, even allowing for the winner being well held at York in their major Sales race at the Ebor Festival.
The third home, Brindavan, won a Kempton nursery on his next start off a mark of 75, while the fourth home – Dandy Arabian – was far from disgraced in a useful Newbury maiden on his only start since.
With that initial run under his belt and improvement forecast alongside this extra furlong being a plus-factor, Special Ghaiyyath is fancied to step up on what amounted to a promising debut effort and open his account at the second time of asking.
The dangers are headed by Andrew Balding's Shrimp Shady – who was second at Kempton on his racecourse bow three weeks ago and looks open to plenty of improvement – as well as Calyxoh for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam. The latter is rated 87 and has the benefit of plenty of experience, having run with credit in a Newbury Listed race over 6f two starts ago and then gone agonisingly close in a Newmarket novice stepped up to 7f in the middle of August.
That duo have sound claims once more but Special Ghaiyyath may be good enough to improve past them off the back of that eye-catching Newcastle debut effort.
