Owen McMahon's NAP of the Day

Bags of superb racing to choose from on Saturday, March 23. I'm heading to Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton, and their NINE race card. One of my favourite jockeys, worthy of the greatest respect, has a ride that for me has a terrific chance. Reasonable price too, as I write.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend of great sport, take care, and above all, have fun. Owen will be back in the saddle next week - can we end our little supersub spell on a high?

The mighty Hayley Turner, she of 1000+winners, Group Ones, the Shergar Cup and oozing general all-round class, rides here for trainer Mark Usher.

Viewfromthestars is regularly ridden by Hayley, and the partnership came a close second at Chelmsford 23 days ago at this trip, and in this basement grade. The five-year-old gelded son of Starspangledbanner started favourite, and after pulling hard and not travelling terribly smoothly eventually made late gains up the inside, without quite getting there.

At this very track back in July he ran a very similar sort of race, and breaking modestly seems to be an unfortunate trait. In terms of Racing Post ratings though that last spin was nearly as good as anything he's produced, only bettered a couple of times much earlier in his career.

Hopefully connections are going to find the key to ensuring smoother passage in the earlier stages of his races, he can put it all together late in the piece, and get his head in front close home.

All Hayley's experience and expertise can be brought to bear, fingers crossed, and cajoling a win from a not entirely straightforward horse would doubtless give her tremendous professional satisfaction. It's important to acknowledge that this would be career win number one; but given his illustrious sire won a Group 1 at Royal Ascot, it's surely within compass.

The pair are drawn wide, but that might not be the worst thing in terms of being held up. Not so much traffic as down on the inside, and we know he can finish to good effect.

A sporting nap, sure, but I like a challenge. Hayley's rightly become a huge figure in the weighing room - an inspiration to the many superb women who now grace the sport. A trailblazer. We're very lucky to have her.
