Nap of the day generic

There is no shortage of Monday racing fare across Britain and Ireland with six meetings slated to take place.

They come over jumps from Stratford and Fairyhouse alongside Flat cards on the turf at Yarmouth, Pontefract and Killarney while all-weather racing is from Wolverhampton into the evening. Monday's Nap of the Day is Sea Chariot as the four-year-old gelding aims to continue a successful few days for Ireland's champion jockey Colin Keane.

Colin Keane is in excellent form of late, the Irish champion rider notching a win around his regular old haunt of Dundalk on Friday evening and then crossing to Newmarket on Saturday where he brought Tamfana home in front in the Sun Chariot Stakes.

She was a ready winner and provided trainer David Menuisier with an overdue first Group 1 victory of the season.

Menuisier turned to Keane after Oisin Murphy was claimed to ride the well-backed See The Fire by Andrew Balding.

It was an inspired choice as Keane had Tamfana handy throughout and they moved to pick up the running at the two furlong pole before readily putting two lengths between themselves and the retiring Inspiral.

It was Keane's first UK Group 1 winner, though few would be willing to suggest it will be his last.

Back to matters at home on Monday for the Co Meath born four-time Irish champ and SEA CHARIOT looks to be one of his likelier hopes on the card at Killarney.

John Murphy's four-year-old won twice in 2023, both times over a mile on the golden highway at Dundalk's Polytrack.

He had an unfortunate experience on his comeback in May, slipping at Naas as Shane Foley hit the deck and he was given a break after.

He may have needed the confidence booster when he ran here over course and distance in July but has twice gone close in as many starts since at Naas and Navan.

He was a length third over 7f at the Kildare track in early August and then went within a half-length of success at Navan (1m, good to firm) late the same month, just failing to collar Shigar after challenging strongly on the wide outside, with the third home Bucaneer's Spirit winning next time over the same C&D.

Sea Chariot is only rated 1lb higher now and returns to Killarney, where Keane boasts a 21 per-cent strike-rate this season.

It also has to be noted that he has a stunning 43 per cent strike-rate when teaming up with this handler over the last 12 months, with three winners and two more in the frame from just seven attempts. They can combine for some Monday success at Killarney and land our opening Nap of the week.
