Nap of the Day: McCain charge to deny Mullins at Carlisle

With four British and Irish meetings taking place across Monday there's plenty of racing action to cater for all tastes. The afternoon action starts at Punchestown, where they race between 13:00 and 16:40, before Southwell (13:10-16:20) and Carlisle (13:20-16:33) join the fray, with the evening offering coming from Wolverhampton.
Our Nap of the Day for Monday comes from the north of England at Carlisle where Throatlash who was a major eyecatcher on his recent rules debut. He should give a bold bid under the former Champion Jockey, Brian Hughes.
Nap of the Day - Monday, February 3
- 13:20 Carlisle - Throatlash @ 9/2
A somewhat normal Monday at Carlisle has been brightened up with the fact Willie Mullins and son Patrick team up with one runner in the opening 2m1f novices' hurdle and the unbeaten More Coko will certainly attract plenty of interest from punters.
However, Donald McCain has won three of the last five runnings of the contest and THROATLASH could be tough to beat as he will be getting 7lb from that rival.
Purchased for £30,000 at Tatts in Cheltenham in November, the six-year-old son of El Salvador made a pleasing debut when he finished as the runner-up behind an impressive winner over course and distance in December.
The winner only found the Grade 1-entered Fingle Bridge too strong in a Market Rasen novices' hurdle since so the form has been well advertised.
Given that he already has form around this track, further improvement can be expected for a stable which has a 19 per cent strike rate around here in the last five seasons and the stiff nature of Carlisle should really bring this point winner’s stamina into play.
