Owen McMahon's NAP of the Day

Fingers crossed Exeter survives an inspection on Friday morning, for I'm keen on one who goes in the opening race of the card.

NAP of the Day

I'm sure Hurricane Highway will be popular for this novices' handicap chase over three miles, but I expect Top Of The Bill to confirm course & distance form from just over three weeks ago.

There's no doubting that the former, who maintains his partnership with the red-hot Harry Cobden, is a well-handicapped horse who's more than capable of landing a race of this nature, but there's one big obstacle getting in the way of that happening. Literally.

Evan Williams' six-year-old is a poor jumper. He unseated on his chasing debut back in November last year before chucking a race away at Chepstow a month later courtesy of a sizeable mistake at the fourth-last when travelling extremely well.

Then last time out here at Exeter, when beaten an easy seven-and-a-half lengths by Top Of The Bill, he jumped poorly again, unable to lay a glove on Nigel Twiston-Davies' eight-year-old.

Hurricane Highway is eight pounds better off this time and that should bring him closer, but can you trust him not to make another race-ending mistake? I certainly can't.

Even were he to put in a clear round, it's no guarantee he'd reverse the form. The selection did it very easily the last day and now they've seemingly found the key to getting the best out of him - riding him from the front - he's somewhat unexposed despite his age.

Another small field will allow him to dominate again and, on soft ground he's sure to cope with, I hope he'll prove very tough to beat. He's my NAP of the Day.
