After two promising efforts in defeat behind some nice types, a classy Richard Hannon-trained filly is taken to get off the mark at Newbury on Friday.

NAP of the Day

  • 14:25 Newbury – Serene Seraph10/11

When SERENE SERAPH, who until recently held some eye-catching Group entries, and the odds-on Skellet pulled over five lengths clear of their rivals at Salisbury earlier this month, my immediate thought was that we were looking at two classy fillies.

The selection’s conqueror that day now looks destined for the G2 Dubai Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket later this month, which I suppose supports that theory somewhat.

Meanwhile, Richard Hannon has chosen to go down a different route with his two-year-old daughter of Blue Point – specifically, this Conditions Stakes over 7f at Newbury.

Frankly, this looks a great opportunity for her to break her duck at the third attempt.

Of those with form in the book, her main rivals are Alice Haynes’ Snafiya, who’s been on the go all season and doesn’t look to be progressing all that much, and Lokanan for David O’Meara, who hasn’t really got close to winning as of yet.

There’s two newbies that need a market check. Inversion for Harry & Roger Charlton, being by the great Frankel and out of an Oasis Dream mare, particularly looks the part and, in those famous Juddmonte silks, rates a danger.

That being said, it’s a high standard Serene Seraph sets based on her two runs to date and ultimately it seems unlikely any of her six rivals will be up to matching it.
