It’s a busy Tuesday of action with six cards in the UK and Ireland including five Flat cards and a jumps meeting at Wexford.

Here, we focus on the Pattern action at Naas where there are a couple of Listed races to get stuck into as well as some competitive handicaps.

Naas Tips - Wednesday, July 24

  • 17:18 Naas - Make Haste @ 8/1
  • 18:20 Naas - Nighteyes @ 13/2
  • 18:55 Naas - Asisaid @ 12/1

17:18 Naas - Make Haste @ 8/1

It looks like a cracking renewal of the Marwell Stakes on Wednesday afternoon and the race has been given a boost by Karl Burke sending over the highly promising Miss Lamai.

Her sole win came in a novice race at Thirsk but she enhanced her form when finishing runner-up in the Marygate at York, a Listed contest for two-year-old fillies, before a close-up fourth in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot last time out.

The filly is back down in class at Listed level here but she is going to be pretty short in the market and a high draw isn’t always ideal over this course and distance when the ground is on the quick side.

With those factors in mind, it might be worth taking a chance on one at a bigger price and Make Haste fits the bill for Diego Dias.

The Brazilian trainer reported that connections turned down a whopping offer of £760,000 after Make Haste’s debut success when bolting up in a course and distance maiden on May 11. That was a really likeable effort, showing a potent turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides and he was good value for the three-and-a-quarter-length winning margin that day.

There has been a pretty low-key effort in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot since but she showed signs of not handling the occasion, very keen in the early stages of that contest after missing the break.

She might be able to resume progress back down in class here, particularly if the first-time hood helps her settle and she should get a decent pace to aim at with a few front-runners in the line-up. A return to this venue might do the trick and she can go well with a useful draw in four.

18:20 Naas - Nighteyes @ 13/2

David O’Meara does well with his Irish raiders and Nighteyes might be worth chancing in the other Listed contest on the card.

The Night Of Thunder filly looked promising as a juvenile, going close three times before getting her head in front at the end of her two-year-old campaign.

However, her three-year-old form makes her of interest here. She has looked highly progressive this term, winning back-to-back handicaps before a close-up third at Sandown last time when tried at Listed level for the first time.

That looks like solid form and she could be the one to side with given there should be more progress to come.

18:55 Naas - Asisaid @ 12/1

A good rider can be worth their weight in gold in races confined to apprentices and Jack Cleary has an interesting ride in Asisaid in this one mile handicap.

He did well from a very poor position at Roscommon last time out and this previous course and distance winner (a win in this race last year) is only 2lb above that winning handicap mark.

She should come on for her return run at Roscommon and could take some beating.
