Musselburgh Tips: Paddy’s Day can celebrate in style

Musselburgh stage their first Flat meeting of the season on Wednesday afternoon, with the Scottish track hosting a seven-race card.
The action is highlighted by a valuable Class 3 handicap and Paddy’s Day, who heads my three Musselburgh tips, could enjoy some celebrations.

13:37 - Spartan Warrior @ 5/1
The Musselburgh card gets underway with an amateur jockeys’ handicap over two miles and the staying contest can go the way of SPARTAN WARRIOR.
Rebecca Menzies’ charge reverts to the flat after disappointing over hurdles last month, but there are a few reasons to think that the four-year-old can go well on Wednesday afternoon.
Spartan Warrior is running for the second time after a wind op and the blinkers go on for the first occasion.
The four-year-old will be race fit after his run over timber 12 days ago, and Menzies’ runner had previously looked pretty progressive when wearing cheekpieces and winning a pair of handicaps at Beverly for former trainer Ollie Sangster last May.
Spartan Warrior faces only four rivals in the opening race on the Musselburgh card and there looks little in the way of credible opposition.

15:37 - Paddy's Day @ 9/2
The feature race on the card at 15:37 can go the way of prolific all-weather scorer PADDY’S DAY.
Nigel Tinkler’s runner is on a five-timer, having won his last four starts, all of which have come at Newcastle, and the way he finished his last race suggests his winning run may not be about to come to an end.
Paddy’s Day switches to the turf for this run, but the five-year-old has performed perfectly well on grass previously and it could be that the speedster is just an improved horse this term.
Tinkler’s sprinter is also race fit and with only three opposing horses having a run in the last 30 days, that could prove a major advantage in the feature race of the day.

16:10 - Mullwarchar @ 6/4
MULLWARCHAR looks capable of taking a step forward when moving up in trip in this three-year-old handicap over 1m1f at 16:10.
Charlie Johnston’s charge ran with credit when sent off at 7/2 on debut at Wolverhampton in December and the son of Ulysses certainly appeared to want further even on his first racecourse start.
The three-year-old had a wide trip when running over a mile at Lingfield on his second start before dropping back to seven furlongs on his third outing at Southwell.
He may still be waiting to shed his maiden tag, but Mullwarchar is related to several winners and those three runs have resulted in a mark of 68. Johnston’s runner could prove better than his current rating and the step up in trip should suit.
