Minella Indo Grand National Odds 2024: Can Blackmore win again?

Irish horse Minella Indo is fully expected to see plenty of action in the 2024 Grand National betting market, thanks in large part to the fact Rachael Blackmore is set to ride him in the race.

It is rare that in a horse race, the jockey gets more column inches and generates more interest than the actual horse itself, yet when it comes to Rachael Blackmore, she is one of the very few people in the saddle who those outside of the sport have heard of. And when it comes to the Grand National, an event where many people are placing their once yearly bet, that name recognition is worth plenty.

We’ll put aside the jockey for now and concentrate on the recent form of this 11-year-old. His three outings this term have been very much a mixed bag, starting out with a relatively comfortable win in Grade 3 company over at Punchestown before struggling towards the end of the Champion Chase at Down Royal, finishing fourth of four back in November.

It was fourth again in the Crystal Cup Cross Country at Cheltenham just before Christmas but that time it was from 13 starts and a much better performance, having been held up early on before rallying late and fighting Fameaftertheglory for third and just missing out. The Cross Country at the Festival was the plan but that race was called off due to the poor weather, so Minella Indo has been idle since that race back in 2023.

He is a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner (albeit back in 2021) and will attract that surge of money just because Blackmore is in the saddle.

Last year Ain’t That A Shame briefly went favourite when Blackmore was confirmed as the jockey, so watch out for plenty of fluctuations in the betting market for this horse. One to watch closely to ensure you get your money on at the right time. Remember, this jockey won this race back in 2021 on board stable-mate Minella Times. So there is a reason her rides are going to be popular. Certainly a contender, although the price will be key.
