Minella Cocooner Grand National Odds 2025: Plenty of each-way value here

If you are looking for a value each-way play from Willie Mullins’ stable then this one may well be the one for you. 

We assess Minella Cocooner’s Odds for the Grand National and whether the recent form suggests that this might be a value bet come Saturday…

Emerging victorious in two big handicap races in the space of 12 months is always a tough ask. Minella Cocooner comes into this race a year removed from a really impressive win in the Gold Cup at Sandown Park. It was his stamina that day that stood out as he gutted it out, beating Annual Invictus by a neck. Nick Rockett, who is heavily fancied for the Grand National, finished third that day.

Since that victory, however, he’s been racing exclusively in top-level races and has struggled to even place. Finishing fourth in the Bobbyjo at Fairyhouse is probably the best result since that win at Sandown Park last April but here is where sometimes looking solely at the raw data and numbers isn’t the be all and end all.

Just because he hasn’t placed in top-level company in his past four doesn’t mean that he’s over the hill or that big win was a fluke. Sometimes horses step down in class and can look brilliant against lesser opposition, but Minella Cocooner has consistently been going toe-to-toe with classy horses.

Even before that big breakthrough victory, he was only beaten by four lengths in the Irish Grand National behind heavily-fancied Intense Raffles, so he has been there or thereabouts for a while now.

Trainer Willie Mullins says that he jumps well but thinks that his handicap number may well be tough to overcome. That is certainly true, but for those looking to back him, that run in the Bobbyjo was solid enough and certainly encouraging. Should be a good price for those looking for a place on Saturday in the Grand National.
