Friday is going to be a busy day on the racing front, with no fewer than eight meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland.

One of those fixtures take place at Market Rasen, which hosts a National Hunt card which consists of seven races from 13:40-17:10, with the ground expected to be good, with some watering taking place.

We've picked out a trio to follow at the Lincolnshire venue, including a well handicapped Donald McCain runner that can get back to winning ways.

Market Rasen Tips - May 10

  • 15:15 – Legionar @ 11/4
  • 15:50 – Presentandcounting @ 12/1
  • 16:25 – Get A Superstar @ 9/2

15:15 – Legionar @ 11/4

Legionar – Market Rasen 15:15

This event looks fairly competitive but, that being said, there’s one standout contender that gets the nod from us. LEGIONAR has made a fine start to life at the Harriet Dickin yard, having joined at the end of March, and is unbeaten in two starts since.

Chasing a hat-trick here, the six-year-old looks well set to get the job done, as a 4lb rise for his latest victory shouldn't prove too problematic.

He was a 10-length winner of a novice hurdle at Sedgefield on good ground when trained by Milton Harris and is therefore likely to appreciate the conditions here.

Champion jockey Harry Cobden has been on board for his last two runs and the very successful partnership is maintained here.

15:50 – Presentandcounting @ 12/1

Another horse that will love the quick ground is Donald McCain’s PRESENTANDCOUNTING, who has 10 wins and 9 placed efforts to his name in 26 starts on that type of going.

It was a pretty underwhelming effort when a 24-length eighth at Cheltenham last time out but he’s entitled to improve the run, as it was his first for 200 days.

Definitely one to follow in the summer months, the handicapper has given him a helping hand with a 3lb drop for that latest run. This race looks significantly easier than the Cheltenham one and it presents a cracking opportunity to return to winning ways.

The son of Presenting is currently on a rating of 132, which is 2lb lower than his last winning mark. That win came by a wide margin at Perth in August and he looks very well handicapped on that evidence.

McCain’s veteran chaser deserves another chance or two and it would be no surprise to see him return to winning ways here.

16:25 – Get A Superstar @ 9/2

Market Rasen’s penultimate race is unlikely to throw out any top level performers, but there’s a thoroughly unexposed handicap debutant that draws the eyes in this race. GET A SUPERSTAR probably won’t live up to his name, but he’s certainly capable of winning at this level.

He appeared to be lacking some gears when outpaced over two miles at Fakenham last time out, but he kept on well enough to finish third. The step back up in trip should suit with that in mind and a big run is anticipated.

Making his handicap debut here, an opening mark of 100 seems pretty fair and Luke Scott takes 5lb off. It surely won’t be long until he gets off the mark over hurdles and this could be the day.
