Lucky 15 Tips: Overdue visit to Salisbury is plain common sense

Monday 8th June 2026, 18:34

Seven races at Salisbury on Tuesday, a lovely venue I visited once many moons ago and one we use less than we should in terms of our Lucky 15 tips, so let's put that right.

Oisin Murphy's here, as is Rossa Ryan, Billy the Kid, Tom Marquand - it should be an absolute cracker of an afternoon. Enjoy!

Lucky 15 Tips - Tuesday 9 June 2026

  • Salisbury 15:18 - Supreme King @ 5/1
  • Salisbury 15:48 - Bright Summer @ 5/2
  • Salisbury 16:53 - Rossa Raheen @ 13/8

Horse Racing Odds

Salisbury 15:18 - Supreme King @ 5/1

A 6f Class 5 handicap, for older horses.

Rossa Ryan is a much sought-after jockey for several trainers when they can get him, and one such is certainly Monmouthshire handler Dave Evans.

He saddles a six-year-old Kingman gelding here, Supreme King, and quite apart from being in highly respectable form he's a class-dropper, testing the waters in a Class 5 for the first time in about six months.

He's rated 75 today, just 2lb higher than his last winning mark, and Rossa has won on him previously. The selection is six-from-54 all told and has drawn the two box, a definite plus. Great chance.

Salisbury 15:48 - Bright Summer @ 5/2

Oisin Murphy, 25% strike-rate over the last 14 days, teams up with long-time ally Andrew Balding in this 7f novice for three-year-olds and upwards.

Bright Summer is a three-year-old Dark Angel filly who's made a super start to her career. A debut fourth (beaten 4.25l) in a Newbury heat in April, followed by a Lingfield success in another 7f maiden four weeks ago, making all and scoring cosily by 2l.

Andrew's been amongst the winners pretty consistently too and the pair could combine to great effect here. Potential soft ground is a bit of a concern but I'm hoping she won't be too inconvenienced.

Salisbury 16:53 - Rossa Raheen @ 13/8

Class 4 handicap now, over 10f, for three-year-olds and upwards.

Jockey Rossa Ryan, as we've said so often a go-to guy for trainers and this column, is on one at around the top of the market but I'm taking him on with another Rossa - the three-year-old Rossa Raheen, by St James's Palace hero Palace Pier.

The selection has had four runs so far, and happy to report that the latest, 25 days ago at Newbury, was the best. She was beaten just a neck in a field of 14 and the third home that day has subsequently gone in at Windsor a week ago.

Dave Probert has the riding assignment and will be the fifth top-flight jock to have ridden the filly so far after Hollie Doyle, Silvestre De Sousa, Jamie Spencer and Danny Muscott. I'd say connections think highly of her and she's housed with Ollie Sangster, at the legendary Manton complex in Wiltshire.

Salisbury 17:28 - Grand Vista @ 6/1

The last on the card is a 6f sprint handicap, for three-year-olds.

A dozen are slated to face the stater and I'm siding with Grand Vista, a son of Far Above out of a Daylami mare. William Muir & Chris Grassick train, in Lambourn, and the mighty Tom Marquand is in the plate.

This is handicap debut time, after a maiden and two restricted novices, and the assessor has decided upon an opening mark of 60. Last time on seasonal reappearance 29 days ago at Windsor he was fifth of 12, running on, over 6f; and gets another 220 yards this afternoon to get organised and finish to good effect.

It's a very open-looking contest and we won't need to be a world beater to take a hand in the finish.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £450 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
